Gordon Brown has had his well publicised awkward moments on the campaign trail — but during his Telford visit it was wife Sarah who had a wobble.

After chatting to Asda staff she took her position alongside her husband on a wooden pallet put out by store bosses to act as a stage for Mr Brown’s speech.

Holding on to a bouquet of flowers in one hand, she briefly lost her balance when a heel from one of her shoes slipped through a gap between the pallets.

Although the shoes were golden, it was no Cinderella moment for the 46-year-old as she quickly straightened her back in a bid to catch her balance again.

But the moment did little to faze the PM as he and Asda staff joined in a round of communal laughter.

Mrs Brown is no stranger to fashion. She is known for attending London Fashion Week and admitted in a recent interview that she likes to be “on-trend”, wearing brands from Asos to Reiss.

Smartly dressed in a red coat and a grey dress, the PR guru also managed to see the funny side and began laughing once she realised she was out of danger of tripping.

Carefully stepping down off the pallets, the couple then made their way to a waiting car.

But later on in the day the trip-up failed to make it onto her famous Twitter page when she simply said “campaign visits with GB in Leamington, Telford and Wrexham — great Labour support on the ground.”

And no doubt safely on the ground is where she wanted to stay.
