Candidate in PRH vow
Wednesday 5th May 2010, 8:00AM BST.
Liberal Democrat candidate for The Wrekin, Alyson Cameron-Daw, has pledged to support the campaign to keep the Princess Royal Hospital open.
She said: “I have first hand experience of fighting successfully to keep a much-needed A&E department where I used to live in Chichester.
“We galvanised local support to reach such a level of street protest and withdrawal of volunteer services that the Primary Care Trust had to back down.
“Sadly, just raising a petition, although it’s a fair size, doesn’t hold enough sway with the health authorities who are making such a nonsensical proposal here.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Cameron-Daw said the Liberal Democrats would be willing to listen to the people on the controversial opencast mine proposals at Lawley.
She added: “It’s hard to believe that with so much opposition to the open cast proposal at Lawley, the Government overruled passionate local feeling to give the go-ahead for the complete devastation of a beautiful part of the Shropshire countryside.”
