Churches arrange series of hustings
Monday 26th April 2010, 8:54AM BST.
County churches have organised a series of hustings this week giving members of the public the chance to quiz candidates.
Telford candidates start the ball rolling at St Leonard’s Church, Malinslee, tomorrow night.
The following night Wrekin candidates are at All Saints Church in Wellington, before Shrewsbury candidates face the public at Holy Trinity Church, Meole Brace, on Thursday night.
The event for candidates in North Shropshire is on Sunday night. The events, promoted by the Lichfield Diocese, all start at 7pm.
Candidates from the three major parties, plus UKIP and Green Party representatives, are expected to attend. BNP candidates have not been invited in line with the Lichfield Diocese policy.
And in a meeting organised by the Public & Commercial Services Union (PCS) as part of its Make Your Vote Count campaign, seven candidates for the Telford and Wrekin seats from four parties will be in the hotseat on Thursday at the Whitehouse Hotel, Wellington.
Trade union members in public sector jobs will have the chance to quiz candidates.
The event runs from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and afterwards there will be a trade union social event at the Whitehouse featuring live music.
