Ex-Tory joins campaign

The former leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament has helped keep on track Lib Dem candidate Heather Kidd’s campaign to win back Ludlow for the party.
Edward McMillan-Scott joined the Liberal Democrats in March after opposing David Cameron’s decision to force his MEPs to leave the mainstream Conservative EPP group in the European Parliament.
Yesterday he joined the campaign trail at Highley Station on the Severn Valley Railway. Mr McMillan-Scott also officially opened the new Liberal Democrat campaign headquarters in Bank Street, Bridgnorth, followed by some street campaigning in the historic Ludlow market square.
At Highley he toured the railway museum and conference centre and talked to SVR general manager Nick Ralls and his team about the railway’s battle to rebuild after flooding and their hopes for government support for the heritage and tourism sector.
Pat Stokes-Smith, chairman of Ludlow Liberal Democrats, said: “Mr McMillan-Scott was extremely interested in the fact that the Severn Valley Railway had European funding to repair all the damage from the flooding in 2007.”
