Girl, 11, racially abused and chased through town

An investigation is under way after a group of children racially abused an 11-year-old girl and chased her through a town.

Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating the incident, which took place at around 5.30pm on Saturday, May 12, in Welshpool.

It is alleged that a group of older children shouted comments about the colour of the girl's skin and chased her between the town's Berriew Street Car Park and Morrisons supermarket.

Police said one youth has been spoken to about the incident, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Pc Jim Baines of the neighbourhood policing team in Welshpool said: “Police will not tolerate any racist behaviour and I am appealing for anyone with information, or who saw this unpleasant incident, to come forward.”
