Police are appealing for witnesses to what they described as an "unprovoked assault" on the Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury.

The boy was cycling on the pavement at around 4.35pm on Tuesday and as he was getting off the bike to pass people walking on the bridge a man is said to have pushed him.

He fell into the road and injured his wrist.

Laura Maltby of West Mercia Police said: "The man, who is described as tall, heavy set, in his 30s or 40s, with a beard, is understood to have been walking with a woman that was wearing a black and white jacket.

"Inquiries are currently ongoing but officers are keen for anyone who saw the assault, who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously or who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward."
