Jewellery stolen as Bridgnorth antiques centre hit by burglars for second time in two months

Burglars have stolen jewellery from an antiques centre in Shropshire which has been hit by raids for the second time this year.

Two burglars smashed their way into the Old Mill Antiques Centre in Mill Street, Bridgnorth, using crow bars on Monday night.

A number of locked glass cabinets were damaged and antique jewellery including watches, chains, rings and pendants were taken.

In February, the centre released CCTV images showing a crowbar-wielding burglar stealing up to £20,000 worth of jewellery and £850 in cash.

The burglars did not get away with as much this time.

Liz Roseblade, spokeswoman for the Old Mill Antiques Centre, said: "There were two burglars, they broke in through the front door.

"They've been clearing up the mess this morning, they made a real mess of the door with crow bars.

"They weren't able to get away with very much, it was minimal. The real damage was to the door. They also managed to smash in some cabinets.

"They must've been startled by the alarm as they left a crowbar behind.

"They were all dressed in black.

"It is obviously worrying that this is on the increase, we are concerned. It's a real problem, a lot of antiques centres are being targeted.

"We're on the verge of installing a highly sophisticated burglar alarm system."

The centre was open again this morning.

Police said the burglary took place between 12.30am and 12.50am this morning.

Enquiries are currently ongoing but officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 19S of April 25.
