John Reeves, 35, denied causing the woman grievous bodily harm with intent in Shrewsbury.

The charge relates to an alleged incident at a property in the town on Friday where a woman, aged in her 30s, suffered serious cuts to her neck.

An application for bail was refused at the hearing, held in Telford.

The matter was committed to Shrewsbury Crown Court where it will next be heard on May 8.

Reeves, of Copthorne Road, a corporal in the Royal Dragoons, was remanded in custody until then.

A trial date was also set for October 3.
