The middle-aged man and woman were rushed to hospital by Air Ambulance with serious stab wounds. The other woman was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

None of the injuries is believed to be life threatening.

Police were called by concerned neighbours following reports of an incident outside a bungalow on Sefton Drive, Bomere Heath at 8.10am.

The alarm was raised by a woman running in to a convenience store which backs on to the road and asking for help.

In a statement by West Mercia Police a woman suffered stab wounds to the chest and ribs and was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance.

Members of the emergency services rushed to the bungalow and found a man suffering from stab wounds. He too was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance.

A second woman was found at the property suffering from head injuries. She also received medical attention and was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

It is understood that police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

The house and the nearby Co-op store where one of the women raised the alarm were cordoned off. Forensic officers were expected to be at the properties for much of the day and there was a heavy police presence.

An eye witness who was outside the Co-op store which is just around the corner from the bungalow said that she saw a woman run in to the shop wearing a dressing gown and slippers, carrying a knife and covered in blood.

She said: "I was pretty scared. She just ran in and there was quite a lot of blood."

Residents of the quiet residential street say they were not aware of the stabbing until emergency services descended on the scene.

One neighbour said: "The first we knew about it was the two air ambulances which landed in a field by the school.

"It's not unusual to hear low flying helicopters from RAF Shawbury but these were really low.

"Then there was loads of police and a road ambulance.

"Nothing like this happens here. We are probably the youngest people on the street, it is all old people.

"Apart from the ambulances and police we had no idea what was going on."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulances from Cosford and Staffordshire were sent to the scene.

"A middle aged woman who was outside the property had suffered a stab wound to the chest. After assessment and treatment at the scene, she was airlifted to a major trauma centre.

"A middle aged man inside the property had suffered multiple stab injuries. His condition was also stabilised before being airlifted to a major trauma centre.

"An elderly woman was also found in the property with a serious head injury. She has been taken by land ambulance to a trauma unit after receiving treatment at the scene."
