Jak Wright, aged 25, of Allerton Road in Sundorne, Shrewsbury, admitted last year to stealing the money when he was a branch manager at Carphone Warehouse at Meole Brace in Shrewsbury.

He was given a one-year suspended sentence, which would remain in place for two years, with a 20-day rehabilitation requirement for the original offence.

He was also ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, pay £2,500 in compensation, £150 court costs and a surcharge.

Wright appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday after admitting breaching the requirements of the order.

Graham Russell, prosecuting, said Wright had since the breach demonstrated a willingness to comply with the order and had only had two absences which were deemed acceptable by probation.

In mitigation, Ms Ruth Edwards said: "He has given up a full-time day job to complete the order as quickly as possible which is why he is now doing part-time work.

"He has four days booked in next week to complete some unpaid work. Having had the shock, he has complied as well as can be expected with your honour's warning given."

Fining Wright £200 for the breach and ordering him to pay £100 costs, Judge Peter Barrie said: "I am very pleased to hear that you have in the last four weeks taken the order seriously. In these circumstances, as I promised, I will not activate the suspended sentence. The order is still continuing."
