Lamppost and grit bin are destroyed by car near Oswestry

A lamppost and salt gritting bin in a village street were destroyed when they were hit by a car near Oswestry.

The vehicle is believed to have crashed into both and left the scene as tyre marks could be seen on the grass where the lamppost once stood.

The lamppost, which had a Neighbourhood Watch sign attached to it, was brought down just off St Martins Road in Gobowen.

The adjacent salt gritting bin was also completely destroyed. One resident said he heard a loud bang at about 2.30am on Sunday and awoke to find the damage.
