Gillian Brand, 25 was breathalysed and arrested following the accident which happened as she negotiated a bend on the A518 between Lilleshall and Edgmond on Boxing Day.

Mr Adam Warner, prosecuting, yesterday told Telford Magistrates Court that Brand was found to have 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

"This has been a bad experience for her," he said. "She was travelling along the A518 in a VW Golf and has she approached a bend the car left the road and overturned. She was taken to the police station at Malinsgate."

Representing herself, Brand, of Palisade Close, Newport, handed in a letter that she had written to the bench regarding her actions. She pleaded guilty to an offence of driving with excess alcohol.

Magistrates banned her for 18 months, fined her £250 and ordered her to pay costs £135 and a victim surcharge of £30. She must go on a drivers' awareness course.
