Lemarr McLean-James pleaded guilty to the offence - one of seven charges against him involving the same victim.

The defendant was due to have faced trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday before changing his plea on the one charge.

Judge Jim Tindal adjourned sentence until January 6 for social inquiry reports and to determine whether McLean-James should be considered a dangerous offender.

The rape attack is said to have happened on March 29 this year in the Telford area and the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given permission to witness the court proceedings via video link.

The defendant faced two other sexual allegations and four charges of physical assault on the woman said to have happened on dates in February and March this year.

Mr Nicholas Tatlow, prosecuting, said, that in view of the defendant's guilty plea, the crown prosecution service would not seek trial on the other charges.

However, he said the prosecution continued to assert there was a background of violence and stood by the victim's version of events.

McLean-James, of Brackenfield Road, Birmingham, was allowed bail with conditions of residence, curfew and having no contact with the victim.
