Parents in Welshpool have been warned not to allow their children to walk to and from their classes, breakfast and after-school clubs unsupervised in light of recent "suspicious activity" in the area.

In a statement issued to parents from Jim Toal, headteacher at Welshpool High School, he said: "It has come to our attention that Shropshire Council has issued advice to parents following incidents in the Oswestry area two weeks ago, and further recent suspicious activity.

"While no warning has been issued by Dyfed-Powys Police or Powys County Council, we wanted to share the following official information from Shropshire Council.

"Further to the suspicious incidents in the Oswestry area before half term, there is an indication of further suspicious activity recently. Pupils and students should be advised not to walk to/from school alone. Not walking alone is particularly relevant, including breakfast clubs, late arrivals and after-school clubs."

Shropshire Council issued advice to all schools after the incidents.

The advice comes after police revealed that they were investigating the attempted abduction of two schoolchildren in Oswestry and Weston Rhyn last month.

While this week police also confirmed a man in a "suspicious vehicle" asked a teenage girl if she needed a lift on The Crescent in Nesscliffe, between Oswestry and Shrewsbury, and last Friday (NOV 4), another "suspicious vehicle" was reported to have followed a woman in Morda.

The incident happened on Erw Wen, shortly after 1.30pm, when two men got out of a small silver saloon vehicle. They told the woman who was in her late 20s to get into the car.

Anyone with information on any suspicious activity should call West Mercia Police on 101.
