Arrest after pensioner injured in attempted Shropshire robbery

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery in Market Drayton.

The offence happened in Hospital Lane and left a woman in her 60s with injuries to her forehead after an unknown man attempted to steal her handbag.

The woman kept hold of her handbag but fell to the ground.

Police say the suspect then left the scene on foot in the direction of Shrewsbury Road. It happened between 8.20pm and 8.35pm on October 16.

The suspect is described as being dressed in black, wearing black bottoms with a vertical white stripe and a black hooded top. It is believed that he did not speak during the incident.

The man from Market Drayton who has been arrested in connection with the attempted robbery is currently on police bail until December 6.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have any information.
