Woman suffers cut to head in attempted Market Drayton robbery

A woman suffered a cut to the head when she fell to the floor after a man tried to grab her handbag in Market Drayton.

The attempted robbery happened in Springfield Park, Shrewsbury Road, at about 8.40pm on Sunday.

The offender is described as a male, about 18-20 years old, 5ft, of slim build and wearing tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side and hoodie with white trim.

Anne Tugwell, operational communications assistant, said: "At about 8.40pm we received a report of an attempted robbery in Springfield Park, Shrewsbury Road, Market Drayton, which had happened about ten minutes earlier.

"A woman, who is in her sixties, was walking along the road with a man when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown male who tried to grab her handbag.

"The woman hung on to the bag but fell forward to the floor and as a result suffered a cut to her forehead and grazing to arms and legs."
