Fly-tipping in Telford is dropping, councillor told

Fly-tipping in Telford is dropping - it has been revealed.

Published

It comes after Councillor Peter Scott raised concerns over the amount of fly-tipping in Newport and called for Telford & Wrekin council to do more to police dumping "hotspots".

Raising a question at Telford & Wrekin's full council meeting at Telford College of Arts and Technology on Thursday Councillor Scott said signs, bollards or CCTV should be put up in areas that are plagued with regular fly-tips.

But in response, Councillor Angela McClements said that fly tipping had been reducing over the past few years, with only six reported in Newport so far this year.

She said the number of fly-tips borough-wide had dropped from 4,075 in 2014 to 3,636 in 2015/16.

She added that the council had a policy to remove fly-tips with two days of it being reported and that they would continue to monitor areas to gather evidence on possible culprits.
