The goods were stolen from the kitchens of Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.

Police are now warning people to be on the lookout for meat being sold in the region that is not from a known butcher after the break-in.

Sergeant Adrian Woolley, of West Mercia Police's south Shropshire safer neighbourhood team, said the break-in was believed to be have taken place at about 12.30am on Monday.

He said: "If you are offered any meat for sale, other than normal retail outlets, please consider where it may have come from and whether it is safe to eat. This meat may not be sold as frozen, there is a good chance it has been defrosted. It may have been left out of the freezer for several hours."

"We are appealing for witnesses who may have been offered the meat, or anybody who knows what happened on the night in question, to come forward on 101."

Catherine Collier, general manager at the discovery centre, said exactly how much was taken was still being worked out.

It comes after thousands of pounds' worth of meat was stolen from Shepley Family Butchers in Market Drayton just weeks ago.
