Police officers investigating the incident that happened, in Chepstow Drive, Leegomery, in the early hours of June 25, released the images on Twitter in a bid to catch the culprits responsible.

Firefighters went to the scene following reports that car was on fire, but when they arrived at about 3.45am they found two vehicles alight.

Now officers at Wellington Police Station have released images of the badly damaged red Peugeot and the black Honda.

They said a third car, a Mini, escaped damage.

Pc Rob Hughes, of Wellington neighbourhood team, said: "One of the victims is an elderly gentleman who was left in a distressed state following this incident. He has been left wondering if he is being targeted.

"When the emergency crews arrived they found that attempts had been made to set fire to a third car, a blue Mini, but it failed to catch fire.

"We're hoping that by releasing this pictures that it will prick the conscience of someone who knows who did this act. At the present time we don't know what was used to start them."
