Man charged and teenage girls bailed after Whitchurch attack on boy, 16

A man has appeared in court charged with stabbing a teenager in Whitchurch.

Lee Cooper, of Wayland Road, Whitchurch, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday.

The 22-year-old, who spoke just to confirm his name and address, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon, namely a six to seven-inch black-handled craft knife.

He was bailed to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on February 8 next year, where he is expected to enter pleas to the two charges.

Police were called to Kent Close in the town at about 8.10pm on Saturday to reports of a 16-year-old boy who had been stabbed.

The teenager was treated at Royal Stoke University Hospital and received internal and external stitches before being discharged.

Two girls, aged 13 and 15, were also arrested on suspicion of assault in connection to the incident. Both have been bailed until to return to the police station on January 14.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 638s of Saturday 21 November.
