Gun charge man appears in court

A 43-year-old man appeared in court on Monday in connection with an incident which led to armed police patrolling a village in Shropshire.

Paul Carruthers of Trefonen, near Oswestry, has been charged with four counts of criminal violence and possession of a 12 bore shotgun with intent to cause fear of violence.

The charges relate to events in Trefonen on May 2 and 3.

They include damaging a garage wall, destroying two geese, causing damage to a porcelain goose, and damaging the rear window and lights of a Daihatsu vehicle.

Carruthers is also facing charges of dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road collision in Willow Street, Oswestry on March 12.

Carruthers, who did not enter a plea, was remanded in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on May 13.
