Bridgnorth murder victim’s son tells of family heartbreak
The son of Shropshire murder victim Richard Sherratt today spoke of the family’s heartbreak at his death on the eve of his funeral.

Friends and family will gather for Mr Sherratt’s funeral tomorrow at Kinver, near Bridgnorth.
Mr Sherratt was born in Kinver and attended Foley Infant School before moving to King Edward VI Boys Grammar School in Stourbridge. The service is at St Peter’s Church, in Vicarage Drive, at 12.30pm with a private cremation.
The 57-year-old was discovered by police in his flat in Bridgnorth on June 14. A post mortem revealed he died from head injuries. Three people have appeared at crown court charged with the murder.
Today his 28-year-old son Joseph said: “It has been a very trying time for the family to deal with the heartbreak in the circumstances. It has been difficult to try and cope.”
Mr Sherratt, whose other children include Tom, 29, and 23-year-old daughter Jennie, was previously president of Kinver Football Club and enjoyed shooting and fishing.
Mr Sherratt owned a jewellery making firm in Stourport before becoming a property developer.
A wake will be held at The Fox pub, in Bridgnorth Road, Stourton, from 2pm onwards.
Michael Cyril Smith, 50, of Horton Road, Tipton, Paramjit Anbid Singh, 32, from Wilmore Road, Perry Barr, and Emma Bate, 25, from Gladstone Street, Birmingham, were remanded in custody. They are charged with the murder of Mr Sherratt and with robbing him of his watch and wallet.
