A father-to-be from Bridgnorth was chased down the road by residents who spotted him coming out of a home being renovated after an intruder alarm was set off, a court heard.

Dean Trevor Farrington was arrested after being pointed out by residents who had seen him leaving the house in Victoria Road.

The 34-year-old, of Queensway Drive, Bridgnorth, admitted burglary with intent to steal when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday.

Miss Sara Beddow, prosecuting, said a drill worth hundreds of pounds was found in a carrier bag inside the house. The bag had Farrington’s blood on it.

But Mr Mark Thompson, for Farrington, said nothing was taken. “He is a very pleasant and intelligent young man.”

He said ‘curiosity’ initially drew Farrington as he was on the lookout for a bigger house with his partner currently 16 weeks pregnant.

Magistrates sentenced Farrington to three months in jail, suspended for a year.

He was also ordered to undertake a 12-month community order with drug rehabilitation elements, and pay £60 court costs.
