A football fan is giving a new meaning to bums on seats as he plans to sit on every seat at a football stadium to show support for his cancer-stricken sister and mother.

Ian Bamber, of Telford, is planning to sit on the 23,404 seats at Preston North End FC's ground in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

To warm up for the event on April 26, the father-of-three had a practice run yesterday at AFC Telford United's ground, sitting on 2,200 seats at the New Bucks Head stadium.

The 43-year-old, who grew up in Preston and now lives in Hadley, Telford, said: "Last year, my younger sister got diagnosed with cancer.

"She got the all clear but it's come back and spread to her lungs and kidneys. It is now incurable.

"My mother also got diagnosed with breast cancer and had a breast removed. A family friend also has cancer.

"I'm from Preston and am a Preston supporter. I decided I wanted to do something involving Preston and they kindly agreed.

"Footballers Alan Shearer and Robbie Savage did the bums on seats challenge for Sport Relief at Wembley in 2014.

"I will be doing it with a group of family and friends. There are 13 of us doing this event."

The process operator said he contacted AFC Telford United to see if the club would let him do a practice run at its grounds and he was thankful for the support.

He said: "Practicing at Telford has really helped a lot. I've been doing running, squats and weight training on my legs, but that was the best training I've done.

"I am hoping to raise as much money as I can.

"Macmillan has given a lot of support to my mum and sister and I really want to say thank you and give something back."
