German chain Lidl was granted permission to build the store within the grounds of Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Oteley Road today.

But, as part of the plans, a proposal to switch a 106 planning agreement ruling that the land being used for the Lidl development be for community use to the existing training pitch was deferred.

The land is proposed to be turned into a multi function community pitch under the management of Shrewsbury Town in the Community.

Shrewsbury Town is to move to a new training facility in Sundorne.

Members of Shropshire Council's central planning committee voted for delegated powers to be given to the Area Planning Manager to grant the plans by four votes to three at a meeting at Shirehall today.

But the change of the 106 agreement was deferred.

Reporter Sam Morris attended this afternoon's planning committee meeting.
