Pledge to find cause after Shropshire village floods yet again

Investigations are under way to try and prevent a street from flooding in the future after a water main burst.

Residents in Moreton Street in Prees, near Whitchurch, were once again the subject of a flood because of a burst water main.

It is the latest in a series of problems linked with burst water pipes and drainage issues residents living in the street have faced for several years.

Severn Trent has now vowed to carry out investigations to find the cause.

Yesterday residents in the village woke up to find their street had been completely flooded.

Flood water is believed to have entered several homes, leading to damage to carpets.

Paul Wynn, Shropshire councillor for Prees, said: "There have been a few issues in this area and it is very much a concern for residents and councillors.

"I think they want to resurface the road down there but not until work is done on the water."

Peter Edney, a Severn Trent spokesman, said: "We're aware that the pipe has burst on previous occasions and we will be carrying out investigative work to identify the cause of this to help us prevent it happening in future.

"We were able to keep everyone's water supply running, but we would like to apologise for the issues experienced by local people yesterday."

Police also attended the scene and tweeted: "Be careful on Moreton Street in Prees, a burst water main has caused a knee height flood."

Police said one officer had waded in to help a woman from her home after residents had raised concerns about her.

In 2012 water, which was knee deep in places, gushed down Moreton Street, causing a handful of properties to suffer flood damage.

Some residents were forced to rip up their carpets.
