Ed Wood, 50, of Leeds, is trying to watch a match at all 93 grounds on his tour in the shortest possible time.

He arrived in Shrewsbury for last night's match against Sheffield United. It was the 38th home pitch he has visited since starting his challenge last month.

The loans manager is even heading to English-based Berwick Rangers who play in the Scottish League Two.

His challenge is to raise £50,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and beat the record.

The Derby County fan is hoping to beat the world record which is currently held by Ken Ferris who completed the challenge in 237 days in the 1994-95 season.

The title was first set in 1968-69 by Mike Jones and Bob Wilson from Shrewsbury.

Ed then went on to beat the Guinness World Record in 1992 but was beaten a few years later.

Ed hopes to finish in February but is not sure which ground will be his last.

He said: "I think I am on course to complete the challenge in around 200 days. If it had been a case of narrowly beating the record I would perhaps not have tried.

"I have given up my job for four months to do this and I have to really go for it."

Ed said: "My target is £50,000. I know it is a huge amount and I chose that much because I have just had my 50th birthday. It seemed the right thing to do."

He will also drop in on other grounds when time permits, including The New Saints in Oswestry on Saturday.
