Paul Wood, from Exeter, brought his simulator to RAF Cosford, attracting dozens of visitors

The inside is an exact replica of an air ambulance, with those taking part getting the chance to take the helm for a simulated take-off and landing.

Mr Wood, a health and safety manager, takes the simulator around the country to try and raise money for the Air Ambulance charity. More than £100 was raised on Saturday at Cosford, he said.

He said he wanted to raise money for the charity after experiencing first hand how important it is in saving lives.

Mr Wood had to be flown to hospital for specialist treatment after fracturing his head in 1987.

He said: "Back in 1987 I was working on a film set with Ben Kingsley and Helen Mirren.

"The sliding door of the minibus we were on went flying off its hinges, and the only thing that hit the pavement was my head.

"I had three fractures. The nearest hospital was not far away but they could not operate there so I had to be flown for special treatment.

"I wanted to give something back, which is where the simulator comes in.

"It was great to see so much interest in it on Saturday."
