Sonia Taylor, headteacher of Grove School issued assurances that the school will take any reports of incidents seriously.

It comes following allegations on social media that a girl was assaulted by other pupils outside the school in Newcastle Road on Friday.

Mrs Taylor said: "The Grove School takes a zero tolerance approach to bullying and any allegations are taken very seriously and fully investigated.

"We have a very clear anti-bullying policy and our school staff deal with bullying swiftly and effectively.

"No parent has tried to contact me personally regarding the way any allegations have been handled in school.

"If any concerns are raised we always investigate these fully, involving parents and carers in the process.

"We have a good working relationship with many parents at our school who are very supportive of the way we approach and tackle anti-bullying. So I would urge anyone who has concerns about their child or our policy to please contact us.

"I am always happy to speak to parents whether by phone or face to face, whichever they are comfortable with.

"It has come to our attention that inaccurate information was recently posted on social media following an incident which happened outside our school at 6.30pm on Friday.

"I would like to reiterate that the safeguarding of our pupils is given the highest priority.

"We are deeply shocked at this incident and we are doing everything that we can to support any investigations that may be pursued as a result."
