However, a bit of stamina will be needed on Sunday, when Shrewsbury promises a warm welcome for its Sprint Triathlon, now in its fifth year.

The event provides a unique 500m downstream river swim, followed by a 23k stretch of cycling on undulating country roads, finishing off with a 5k flat run on gravel paths taking in the River Severn.

You can join TeamTri, sign up as a team sharing the disciplines between you – or at least go and support what should be an exciting race. Visit www.sytri.org/ses sions/river-swim for further information.

If you join the Hope House Children's Hospices team, you will receive a running vest and the knowledge that you have helped provide vital support to very special children and families.

Entry fee is £30 per entry, team or individual, plus minimum £100 sponsorship.

Meanwhile, the Applewood Wealth Management company is celebrating the 21st birthday of the children's hospice by hosting a charity fun car treasure hunt to keep the ball rolling. It takes place on Sunday, September 11 and entry fee will be £5 for adults, £3 for under 11s and the under fours go free!

Anyone wanting to take part needs to sign in at 12.30pm in Central Car Park – opposite Marks & Spencer.

To register or for further information please contact Vanessa Lowe on 01691 671903. Cars and their owners are also welcome to turn up and register on the day.

You can also join Ellesmere Friends of Hope House for their second coffee morning of the year on October 22 at Ellesmere Town Hall at 10am.

Tickets are £1 from Averil MacDonald on 01691 622510 or from Ellesmere Friends Group committee members.
