Probe launched into baby's lucky escape after sign fell 20ft onto pram in Newport street

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating what caused a shop sign to fall 20ft on to a baby's pram.

An investigation was initially launched by Telford & Wrekin Council after the sign dropped from an opticians on St Marys Street on May 31, but the new probe by the HSE will examine if there were any health and safety breaches that led to the fall.

The 10-month-old child was taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford after the fall but suffered minor injuries only.

A spokeswoman for the Health and Safety Executive said: "We are investigating this incident and we have had discussions with the local authority.

"The investigations are ongoing, we are looking into what happened.

"We need to establish the circumstances and see what happened, if there are any breaches of health and safety.

"These investigations take as long as they need to, there is no time limit."
