Watch: Blinged-up gangster pensioners star in Straight Outta Compton (Hospice)

An American muscle car, booming rap music and bling would not normally be associated with charity Compton Hospice, which covers south Shropshire.

And yet all three feature in its new promotional video aimed at dispelling myths about the service it provides to patients facing a life-limiting illness.

The minute-long clip shows two pensioners dressed in sunglasses, gold chains and knuckledusters driving through the village of Wombourne, in South Staffordshire.

As the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C7 stops at traffic lights outside the Round Oak Pub two teenage pedestrians stop to admire.

But when the window comes down revealing the elderly occupants and the video's rap soundtrack, the teenagers are left gawping.

They remain in stunned silence as the driver lowers her sunglasses and displays knuckledusters which read 'Straight Outta Compton Hospice', a play on the title of 2015 hit film 'Straight Outta Compton.'

As the lights switch to green the sports car speeds off before arriving at the charity's headquarters in Compton Road West. The video concludes with the catchline "not out the game yet."

Grace Lee, PR and Marketing Officer for Compton Hospice, said: "We created 'Straight Outta Compton Hospice' to show the world that accessing hospice care isn't a bad thing – it doesn't mean you suddenly stop living.

"Being a hospice patient doesn't mean you have to give up hope. In fact, hospices encourage patients, and families of patients, to do the things that make them feel alive – and if that means cruising the streets of Wolverhampton in a American Corvette C7 Z06 like the folks in our video, then why not.

"The message we want to get across is that just because someone is accessing the hospice doesn't mean you should write them off. It's our job to make sure that our patients are as comfortable and as pain free as possible so they can do and achieve their dreams, goals and ambitions before the end of life."

Filming for the video used local actors from the Bilston Operatic Company, which celebrates its 90th anniversary next year.

It was shot in Wombourne earlier this month, leaving villagers there wondering what it had all been about.

The video was launched via social media today. Within hours it had been viewed more than 15,000 times via Facebook.

In the coming days a T-shirt will be launched with the 'Straight Outta Compton Hospice' branding and the custom-made song will be released for download.

All money raised will be put back into the hospice to support its services which include those for in-patients, day visits and its homecare team.

The charity was recently rated 'good' by across the board by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection earlier this year.
