Firefighters were called to the house on New Church Road where they used chimney rods and small tools to pull the bird to safety just before 7pm today.

A spokesman for Amber Watch said: "The occupier of a property in Wellington reported what they thought was a bird trapped in their chimney breast.

"On arrival, crews dismantled the fire place and after some careful investigation the bird was located and released to the relief of the occupier who said afterwards that they had heard noises since Thursday."
