Watch: Shrewsbury river jump video released for national Drowning Prevention Week

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has released a video of a man jumping off Shrewsbury's Porthill suspension bridge to support Drowning Prevention Week.

The video, posted on Facebook, is a dramatic reconstruction of a rescue by the fire service following a 999 call.

The national campaign is being run by the Royal Life Saving Society UK.

It comes after it was revealed earlier this month that more than 50 people have either died or been rescued from the River Severn in the Shrewsbury area over the past six years.

A new Respect the Water campaign has been launched to raise awareness of the dangers of entering the river and lakes.
