Shifnal aircraft crash: Pilot and passenger killed believed to be from the West Midlands

A pilot and passenger tragically killed in a light aircraft crash in Shifnal are believed to be from the West Midlands.

The pair, who were flying a fixed-wing microlight, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, in a field off Shaw Lane yesterday evening.

Andy Richards, safety advisor for the nearby Wrekin Microlight Flying Club, said that those in the aircraft had not been members of the club, but that they were from the West Midlands.

Air Midwest, an aviation school in Stourbridge, also confirmed that the pair had not been part of their club.

A spokesperson for HM Coroner's Service said: "The coroner has been informed about the crash and there is an ongoing investigation."

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed and has said it has deployed a team of investigators.

A statement form the AAIB said: "The AAIB is sending a team to investigate an accident involving a microlight aircraft near Shifnal, Shropshire."
