Students from Telford College of Arts and Technology got the chance to meet some of England's football stars as they began their build-up to the Euro 2016 tournament.

The group of pupils were invited by the Professional Footballers' Association to spend the day at the national football centre, St George's Park near Burton Upon Trent.

At the centre, they got the chance to meet members of the current England squad, including goalkeeping duo Joe Hart and Fraser Forster, and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

Joe Bates, TCAT sports tutor, said: "It was a fantastic experience to play at the home of the England National Team's training ground.

"We were lucky enough to see the England team arrive to prepare for the Euro 2016 in France this summer, and Joe Hart, Fraser Forster and Ross Barkley were kind enough to stop and have photos taken with some of the students – this really made their day."

The TCAT group was able to help deliver a UEFA B coaching licence to a team of ex-professional footballers, joining in training drills and games.

TCAT first team player Liam Armstrong said: "We were told that the players weren't allowed to stop and have photos taken with us, but some of them did and it was brilliant.

"It was great to have the opportunity to meet them and wish them good luck for the Euros in France.

"The whole day was a great experience."

PFA coach educator Iain Sankey said: "The guys behaved impeccably and were a credit to the college and their teachers.

"I hope to see some of them back here supporting us next year with some new faces."

St George's Park is a £105m facility, set in 330-acres of Staffordshire countryside.

It boasts12 outdoor pitches, including a replica of the Wembley surface, a full-size indoor 3G pitch, a suite of rehabilitation and sports science areas, and an indoor Futsal sports hall.

It is also the home of FA Learning and delivers all FA national coach education courses.
