Two men in wheelchairs robbed in Shrewsbury and Telford

Two men in wheelchairs have been robbed in separate incidents in Shrewsbury and Telford.

In the first incident a man in a wheelchair was punched in the face and robbed by a group of teenagers in a Shrewsbury underpass.

West Mercia Police say they are investigating the attack which took place at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 11, at the underpass in Crowmere Road, Shrewsbury. The man was robbed of £10.

Anne Tugwell of West Mercia Police said: "The man, who was in a wheelchair, was going through an underpass on Crowmere Road when he was approached by a group of teenage boys.

"One of the boys punched the man in the face, causing swelling and bruising, and stole £10 from him."

One of the teenagers is described as a white male, aged between 17 and 18, about 5ft 7 tall and of slim build. He was said to be wearing a black, zip-up hooded top, dark sportswear and a baseball cap with NY across the front.

Another was described as a white male, also aged between 17 and 18, around 5ft 9 tall, and of average build. He was wearing dark coloured sportswear including a blue hooded top with the hood up and drawstrings pulled tight to conceal his face.

The other two boys were said to be wearing dark clothing.

In the other robbery a man in a wheelchair was attacked near to Delbury Court, Deercote, Telford at about 11.15am on Monday, May 16.

The man was hit from behind, forcing him out of his wheelchair, by robbers who stole his bag containing cash.

The offenders are believed to have been black males but no other description is available.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which would help officers with their enquiries is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 0225S of 16 May.
