Police were called to Eastham Bridge, near Tenbury Wells, at about 3.30pm on Tuesday after it collapsed into the river below.

Officers say it is not believed anyone entered the water and there have not been any reported injuries following the incident.

Fire services from Tenbury Wells were also called to the incident along with the National Police Air Service and highway bridge officers.

Traffic built up around the Grade II listed bridge, which sits on the A443 Eardiston to Lindridge road, and police urged drivers to take alternative routes home.

One eyewitness, from Worcester, said no-one was on the bridge at the time it collapsedbut two minibuses turned onto the road bridge shortly after, stopping just before the gap.

The bridge, which crosses the River Teme, dates back to the 18th century and crosses the River Teme.

It was built in 1793 and was thought to be a toll bridge in private hands before being bought by Worcestershire County Council in 1907.
