A town-wide power cut hit Church Stretton knocking out power to more than 1,000 properties.

The power cut affected about 1,500 homes and businesses for about an hour, including the town centre and neighboring villages such as All Stretton.

The cause is not yet known and being investigated.

The power cut follows water supply problems around the Church Stretton and Craven Arms area this morning after a leak was discovered in the Soudley, to the south of east of Church Stretton, in the early hours.

A spokesman for Seven Trent Water said teams worked through the morning to get supplies back to normal.

He said: "We know how difficult it is to have no water, especially during busy times of the day when you're trying to get ready for work and school, and we're very sorry for the disruption caused."

It is not known if the water problems and power cut are related.

The remaining powerless properties are expected to be reconnected in the next couple of hours.
