An eastbound section of the M54 will close on Sunday to make way for the annual Bike4Life charity motorbike event.

The event will see up anywhere between 3,000 and 4,000 bikers ride from Shrewsbury to RAF Cosford to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The M54, eastbound from junction 7 will be closed from 11.40am to 1pm to enable riders to travel safely, although the operators say that the route may be clear sooner, potentially after an hour.

Traffic will be diverted along different routes from each junction along the stretch:

  • From Junction 7 (Wellington) - Along the B5061 to Ketley Brook roundabout, then following Holyhead Road through Beverley Roundabout and Greyhound Interchange to Priorslee Roundabout before being directed left onto the A5 through Limekiln Roundabout and then onwards on the A5 towards the A41.

  • From Junction 6 (Wrekin Retail Park/Lawley) – Follow the A5223 towards Ketley Brook Roundabout, then travel along Holyhead Road through Beverley Roundabout and Greyhound Interchange to Priorslee Roundabout before being directed left on the A5 through Limekiln Roundabout * and then onwards on the A5 towards the A41.

  • From Junction 5 (Forge, Telford Town Centre) – Along A5 Rampart Way to Hollinswood Interchange, then continue to follow A5 to the A41 through Priorslee Roundabout and Limekiln Roundabout and then onwards on the A5 towards the A41.

  • From Junction 4 (Telford Services) - via Castle Farm Way towards Limekiln Roundabout before being directed right onto the A5 towards the A41.

Meanwhile, the closure of a busy Shrewsbury road will be lifted for part of the weekend to coincide with the Bike4Life ride.

Shropshire Council and Severn Trent Water have agreed to temporarily remove traffic management on Roman Road currently in place for water main replacement work.

The decision has been taken following discussions between the two organisations to minimise the potential for disruption.

Currently a one-way system is in place, with through traffic allowed to travel between Longden Road roundabout and Porthill roundabout in a north-westerly direction.

The road closure and diversion will be temporarily lifted on Saturday afternoon, May 7, and replaced by two-way traffic lights. The closure will be reinstated on Sunday evening.
