The problem began at around 7.30am and Severn Trent Water immediately sent out a team to investigate the cause.

The problem was eventually traced to a burst water pipe in a field in the Craven Arms area.

Grace Marren, who works in the Severn Trent communications team, said the company wanted to apologise to everyone affected by the burst water pipe.

She said: "We understand how difficult it can be to have no water especially during the day.

"Once we knew there was a problem we went out immediately to investigate and we're now working to bring water in from another network of pipes to get water supply back on for everyone while we complete the repairs.

"Fortunately the burst pipe is in a field so we're able carry out the work without disrupting local traffic.

"We'd like to thank everyone for their patience and assure you that we're working as quickly as possible to get everything back to normal."
