Heat is on as Shropshire set to sizzle this week

Wind and rain may have led to a miserable Bank Holiday weekend across Shropshire and Mid Wales but as this stunning picture shows, the sun is finally set to shine on the region this week.

The Met Office says the outlook for the county shows the weather gradually becoming warmer, with mild and frost-free nights leading up to the weekend. It will be largely dry throughout the county, with lengthy spells of often hazy sunshine.

On Saturday isolated thunderstorms may develop into the afternoon. Organisers of upcoming events say they hope the bright skies will continue as they prepare to attract revellers.

One major event taking place on Sunday is the annual Bike4Life ride out, which sees thousands of motorcyclists ride along the M54 motorway to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Helen Stevens, spokeswoman for Midlands Air Ambulance and Bike4Life said: "This is one of the biggest events in our calendar and at the moment we are checking the weather every hour.

"We always get a good turn out at Bike4Life, but the weather always helps.

"This weekend we are expecting around 5,000 people taking part in the ride, which starts in Shrewsbury and takes them down the M54 to RAF Cosford.

"Once at RAF Cosford we are expecting around 10,000 people to be there for the festival."

"So when the weather is nice, like we are expecting this weekend, it will hopefully encourage more people to come along.

"But like I said, we are constantly checking the weather ahead of the event."

Other outdoor attractions say they are also keen for the warmer weather to return. Andrea Webster, marketing manager at Weston Park said: "We are delighted the weather is set to improve after a damp start to the year. This year we are celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of legendary landscaper 'Capability' Brown.

"To mark this celebration we are opening his Pleasure Ground of Temple Wood for an extended period this year so some nice weather might tempt visitors out to explore the grounds."

"The weather forecast certainly affects our visitor numbers but looking on the bright side we have a beautiful crop of bluebells for visitors to enjoy this weekend on the annual Bluebell Walks."
