Craven Arms Town Council will support plans to pull down the Temperance Hotel on the A49 and replace it with 22 flats and five houses.

The large white Victorian-era building has fallen into disrepair as no-one could be found to take it on despite being on the market for a number of years.

Now developer Neu Carbon Ltd has lodged plans to build to blocks of flats and a five-house terrace on the site.

Clive Leworthy, vice chairman of Craven Arms Town Council, said members had considered the plans and pledged their support.

He said: "We will be pleased to see the site developed to provide housing for people.

"It is an eyesore at the moment and it would be nice to see the site improved with some housing."

The plans are yet to be considered by Shropshire Council.
