Adrian Leslie Gammon, 48, died at the scene of the crash, which also left six others injured. His devastated family today described him as a "family man" who leaves his wife and two children.

Mr Gammon, also known as Adie, was a child care worker at the Keys Group, which paid tribute to its "loyal" employee.

Keys Group spokesman Chris Rowell said Mr Gammon was dedicated to his career and committed to working with children.

He said: "All our team are left in a state of shock and disbelief at this tragic accident. Adie Gammon was a kind, considerate and loyal person, dedicated to his vocation in childcare, and loved and respected by all who knew him.

"He supported the lives of many young people throughout his career and will be sadly missed by both his colleagues and the young people he was committed to.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this extremely difficult time."

Mr Gammon was killed in the accident on the A534 near the Holt Lodge, near Wrexham. Police today appealed for witnesses to the accident between a Volkswagen Polo and a Dacia Sandero, which happened at about 4pm on Friday.

Police want to speak to anyone who was travelling in either direction along the main road at around the time of the accident.

Two air ambulances, along with police and fire crews from Wrexham, ambulances and two rapid response paramedics were sent to the scene.

Mr Gammon was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident, while another casualty was flown to the Royal Stoke University Hospital by air ambulance and five others were taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

The accident closed the road for more than three hours while emergency services worked and investigations took place.

An eyewitness said the crash happened on an S-bend towards the village of Holt, between Whitchurch and Wrexham.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash should call North Wales Police on 101.
