Latest talks on plans for Telford and Shrewsbury A&E departments

Health officials will meet tomorrow  to discuss initial plans that could lead to the closure of one of the county's accident and emergency departments.

Earlier this month board members of Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group said they felt "uneasy" about backing plans without more information.

The plans would see one emergency department at either the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or Telford's Princess Royal Hospital. Both sites would have an urgent care centre for non-emergency care, which bosses hope will see about 70 per cent of cases that currently go to A&E.

At the previous meeting David Evans, accountable officer for the CCG, was refused permission for himself and chairman Dr Jo Leahy to make the decision on behalf of the group.

Members said they would prefer to get more information and for the decision to come back to the board at an extraordinary meeting.

Tomorrow's meeting will be at 9.15am at the Holiday Inn, Telford.
