This is the moment one quick thinking motorcyclist managed to get a horse out of danger after it escaped onto a busy Shropshire road.

The horse was spotted trotting down Newport Road near Albrighton by firefighter Matt Lakin, who caught the drama on his helmet-cam.

Mr Lakin, of Albrighton was on his way to work this morning when he saw the animal escape from a nearby field.

After realising the horse was heading towards the A41, he decided to usher the horse onto a nearby field to keep it safe.

The footage shows the horse trotting alongside Mr Lakin, before he is able to cut in front of the animal forcing it to stop at the edge of a field out of danger.

This comes after a horse was killed earlier this year after being hit by a car just metres away from where Mr Lakin caught this footage.

The 39-year-old said: "I was on my way to work and I was approaching the A41 near Albrighton when a horse came out of the field.

"Straight away I knew I had to get the horse off the road and somewhere safe, as only in January a horse was killed not far from here.

"After it got out the field it just started trotting and I thought it was going to get onto the A41, which is a very busy road.

"I started following the horse as I knew there was a field coming up as I use this road pretty much everyday.

"I thought that I might be able to sort of force the horse off the road and onto a safe bit of land.

"But it was trotting quick fast, so I had to get quite close and then try and cut it off without harming it.

"Luckily it slowed down and then I managed to guide it onto the field where it was out of harms way.

"I posted the footage to Facebook and Twitter and I just hope the horse's owners see it.

"This is quite unusual for Albrighton and it's not something we see often.

"There's no traveller sites nearby, so I would imagine its owners are looking for it."

Anyone who sees a horse lose on the road should contact West Mercia Police's Horse Watch scheme on 101.

Police have since located the horse's owners.
