Up to 40 homes could be built on a trading estate in Shrewsbury.

Severnside Housing wants to build the homes on the former Hathaways commercial site in Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury.

The housing association has applied to Shropshire Council for planning permission to change the use of the land from commercial to residential.

The 1.2-acre site is currently used by several businesses, but a report submitted to Shropshire Council says many of the leases are nearing an end.

A report by agents Munro Associates says the site is ideal for housing, as it is next to a small supermarket, newsagent and hairdressers and about 100 metres from the nearest bus stop.

The homes would be a mix of two-bedroom apartments and semi-detached two and three-bedroom houses.
