Roads authority raises no objections to Ludlow supermarket bid

A proposed out-of-town supermarket has overcome a major hurdle.

Highways England has raised no objection to the planned supermarket at Rocks Green on the outskirts of Ludlow.

The plans are now expected to go before Shropshire Council's south planning committee for a final decision after more than a year's wait since they were first submitted.

A final decision over whether to allow the development had been put off since December as Highways England had raised concerns a junction on to the main A49 bypass may not be able to cope with the increase in traffic.

Developers Blackfriars has since demonstrated the road system would be able to cope with what is planned.

But Highways England has insisted conditions concerning fencing and lighting, and a full traffic management plan, must be in place before building is allowed.

Objectors say an out-of-town supermarket is unnecessary in Ludlow.
