Shropshire Council cabinet's will discuss the future of Quarry Swimming Pool at a meeting on July 6 following a recommendation which is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Council officers arecurrently going through responses to a five-month consultation period that asked residents to have their say on what they want to see as the future of the pool.

A total of 68 per cent want to see it stay in its current location, but the issue has been complicated by ongoing spending cuts which will see budgets for leisure centres and swimming pools reduced to zero in 2017/18.

Four of the seven options initially put forward would see Shrewsbury's pool moved to another location. Possible venues includeShrewsbury Sports Village, Shrewsbury College, a site off Ellesmere Road, or at Clayton Way in Bicton Heath.

Other options would see a refurbishment, a renovation, or a new build.
