Police to up patrols around Shrewsbury's Greenhous Meadow for Port Vale derby

Police will up patrols around Shrewsbury's Greenhous Meadow for the town's local derby against Port Vale on Friday.

Officers from West Mercia Police said they had been working closely with Shrewsbury Town Football Club ahead of the 3pm match.

Plans have been drawn up to ensure the match runs smoothly, and to minimise disruption on the roads and in the town.

There will be a visible police presence at and around the stadium, and with support of Thames Valley Police Mounted Unit, Horses will also be used in the policing of the game.

An all-ticket only policy has been introduced for Port Vale fans. Fan's must purchase tickets in advance as they will not be available to purchase on the day.

Tickets will be available on the door for Shrewsbury Town FC fans on a first come, first served basis.

Chief Inspector Sean Kent, from West Mercia Police said: "This local derby is an important day for both Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale FC fans, and we want to ensure it runs smoothly and is an enjoyable event for both home and away fans.

"As with any football match where a large crowd is expected, there can be disruption on our roads and in the local area. Through our strategic planning, and work with the club we will be do all we can to minimise the impact on the local community and ensure fans can travel to and from the stadium as easily as possible.

"We will not tolerate anti social and inconsiderate behaviour and will be taking action against anyone who spoils the day for others.

"The match is ticket only, for Port Vale fans, so please don't travel without.

"Please also ensure you arrive in good time to avoid disappointment as latecomers may be refused entry. We would like to wish everyone and enjoyable and safe afternoon."
